How to Strengthen Hair Roots

The hair root is the part of the hair that anchors the strand to your head. If you pull out a single hair, you will often see a light-colored section at the end where it grew out of the scalp. This is called the hair bulb, which is actually the bottom part of the hair root. If you slice it into a cross-section and then view it through a microscope, you will see that the external and internal root sheaths are sandwiched between other layers such as the fibrous connective tissue and the hair cuticle. When hair roots are weak, the hair strands fall off easily. When the problem is bad enough, hair loss density could be sufficient enough to cause areas of baldness. The best way to avoid this is to prevent hair loss from happening in the first place, and it begins by knowing how to strengthen hair roots.

  1. Just like the other parts of the body, the scalp also relies on blood circulation to supply oxygen and nutrients. With proper nourishment, the scalp stays healthy. One way to ensure good blood circulation is by massaging the scalp. The effect of a scalp massage is enhanced when you use oils like coconut, almond, or avocado.



    The oils will keep the scalp and the hair shafts more supple and moisturized.

  2. Hair is made up of keratin, and in order to produce quality keratin, the body has to receive an adequate supply of protein and vitamins. Consume nutritious food like olives, avocados, and lean meats to ensure that the body has enough proteins to sustain good hair growth. Remember that when the body suffers from nutritional deficiencies, the less important cells like the skin, hair, and nails are sacrificed to avoid depriving the crucial organs like the heart and the brain.

  3. An unhealthy diet has been associated with a weakened hair structure. Consuming a diet of trans-fats, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives has been known to trigger a hormonal imbalance, which in turn, affects hair strength. There have been many studies that firmly establish that malnutrition (which does not only refer to consuming inadequate amounts of nutrients but can also mean consuming the wrong kind) can cause hair roots and follicles to weaken or become inactive. Instead of eating food items with poor nutritional value, make the change for a balanced diet. Eat more soybeans, whole grains, and whole eggs; these are good sources for protein and biotin, both of which promote hair growth and strength.

  4. Vitamin E and panthenol are two nutrients that are known to strengthen hair roots. Take a vitamin B complex supplement to make sure that you always maintain adequate levels of these within your body.

  5. And finally, observe proper hair care. Avoid using harsh products or treatments that can leave hair brittle and dry. Hair washing should be done at the right intervals so that the scalp is kept well-moisturized, never too oily or too dry. Remember that hair is at its weakest when it is wet, so avoid using paddle brushes or combs to work out the tangles. Invest in a hair detangling product, especially if the texture of your hair makes it very prone to knots and kinks. Whenever possible, wash your hair with lukewarm or cold water; hot water strips hair of the natural oils that keep it protected.

Some women (and men) would think nothing of spending hundreds of dollars on salon visits and hair products in order to style their hair, yet they neglect to consider how to strengthen hair roots. As the part of the hair that is actually living, care of your hair roots should be one of your priorities when it comes to hair maintenance and grooming.
