How to Travel to Egypt

Would you like to take a glimpse of the Great Pyramid of Giza? If you want to take a peek at the only standing wonder of the ancient world, then you should book a flight to the historical country of Egypt. The world knows Egypt as the place where one of the greatest ancient civilizations of the world flourished. Those who want to know more about the old world will definitely enjoy visiting Egypt. If you want to know how to travel to Egypt, here are the ways to do so:

  1. Get a visa and passport for going to Egypt. Like most countries, Egypt requires a tourist visa for most nationalities, which can be acquired from the Egyptian embassy or consulate in your country. For starters, you can apply for a single-entry visa which will allow you to stay in the country for a month. Take note that you also have to register with the local police once you have arrived at Egypt. This can be done through a simple hotel service.

  2. Take note of the safety in Egypt. Generally speaking, it is safe to travel to Egypt, except during times when there are political riffs that might cause terrorist attacks against tourists.

However, statistics show that violence against tourists is rare. If you are a woman traveling to Egypt, remember that this is a conservative Muslim country, so you also have to dress accordingly and take some basic precautions. Women should avoid shorts and sleeveless clothing so as not to attract attention.

  3. Make sure you are financially equipped. Egypt’s official currency is the Egyptian pound. You can easily find banks there that will exchange your money into Egyptian pounds, which is equivalent to 100 piastres. Major ATM cards like Visa and MasterCard are also accepted in the cities. However, if you are planning to explore Egypt beyond the big cities, make sure that you have enough Egyptian pounds with you. One to five pound notes come in handy for tipping, so make sure you hold on to them.

  4. Take advantage of the best time to travel to Egypt. You can best visit Egypt between the months of October and March, when the temperatures range from 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It is usually sunny in the morning and cool at nighttime. It is not advisable to go there between March and May because of the high occurrence of sandstorms. Egypt can get quite hot as well during the summer, with a temperature of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if you don’t mind the heat and you want to save money, spend your summertime in Egypt.

  5. Stock up on your wardrobe. If you are going to Egypt for the summer, you need to pack loose, light cotton clothing. You can also shop for clothes in Egypt bazaars, since you can always find practical stuff there. If you are going to visit the pyramids and temples, never forget to bring water and sunglasses with you. You should also apply sunscreen because you will be exposed to open desert fields. Eye drops can also come in handy to avoid eye irritation from all the dust you will encounter.

Traveling to Egypt can be done by air, as there are several airlines that operate in Cairo. If you live in a nearby country like Libya or Sudan, you can also travel to Egypt by bus. There are also ferries leaving Greece and Cyprus and going towards Alexandria. Egypt is undoubtedly a place that you should visit once in your lifetime. Knowing how to travel to Egypt is already a great beginning towards making your dream a reality.
