How to Travel to Pakistan

Only a few people know about the beauty of Pakistan as a country, mainly because not many people are blessed enough to have the chance to tour this country. The terrain varies, from high mountains to hot deserts, and has some of South Asia’s most amazing landscapes. It also has a rich history and culture, with Hindu temples, Muslim mosques, and Buddhist shrines to feast your eyes on. For the religious, this is the place where they can get in touch with their faith. As for the people, Pakistanis pride themselves in being hospitable to their guests, often showering them with gifts and delicacies as they enter their houses. However, the political climate of Pakistan is something that you need to watch out for when visiting the country. There are also certain laws in Pakistan that you need to keep in mind while traveling there. Here are the most important guidelines on how to travel to Pakistan:

  1. Getting to Pakistan. Almost all nationalities are required to get a visa when going to Pakistan. You can obtain a visa in your home country, and this visa is usually issued for 30 to 90 days, depending on your nationality.

You can go to Pakistan by plane through its three main international airports: Jinnah International Airport located in Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport found in Lahore, and Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad. You can also enter Pakistan by train if you are coming from India or Iran, but these are not the fastest ways to enter the country. Entering Pakistan through car or bus is also possible if you are coming from China, India, and Iran.

  2. Decide when you want to go. There are generally three seasons in Pakistan: It is cool from October to February, hot around March to June, and wet from July to September. If you want to go trekking, it starts in late April and finishes by late October, with a peak season from June to September. June to August are the peak months when it comes to domestic tourism, as Pakistanis flock to Kaghan Valley, Upper Swat, and the Galis to escape the heat. It is advisable not to visit Pakistan during Ramadan as business hours are shorter during this time.

  3. Getting around in Pakistan. There are many places that you can visit in Pakistan for their historical and cultural value. One of these places is Karachi, which is Pakistan’s largest city and former capital. While in Karachi, you can visit the Quaid-e-Azam’s Mazar, which is the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founder. The structure is made entirely of white marble with North African arches. You can also go to the National Museum, Dream World, Aladdin Amusement and Water Park, and Maritime Museum. If you want to go mountain climbing, you can go to Kashmir to see the second-highest mountain in the world, K2. Other places that you can visit in Pakistan include Chitral, which is a valley noted for its rivers and hot springs, and the Khyber Pass, a 3,500-feet mountain pass connecting Afghanistan to Pakistan. Remember that tourists often go to Pakistan for activities, such as trekking, hiking, cycling, and even horseback riding.

Always remember that in figuring out how to travel to Pakistan or any other place in the world, you have to stay safe and watch out for any travel advisories issued by your country regarding several tourist destinations. There are several areas in Pakistan that are deemed unsafe for tourists, such as the road to Kahuta near Islamabad, so always stick to your itinerary and never stray away from your tour group. Furthermore, avoid traveling to Pakistan during election period due to political tension, which may make it unsafe for tourists.
