How to Travel to Tibet

Visiting Tibet is sure to be a surreal experience. Since it is located between the Himalayas in the south, Tibet seems to be a country on top of the world.   1. Choose a mode of travel. You can travel by air and by land using routes from China. If you want to travel by air, you can fly to Lhasa, Tibet from several Chinese cities like Chengdu and Kunming. You may also enter Tibet from Kathmandu, Nepal. Remember that you have to use a travel agency when purchasing tickets. Another option is to enter Tibet by train through the Qinghai-Tibet railway or through a train coming from Beijing with a stop in Xi’an.

However, this does not pose much of a problem if you have a travel agency that can take care of your travel arrangements to Tibet.

  3. Check out the weather. Because of the high altitude and location of Tibet, it is almost always freezing in the region, and even the summer months are cold. The ideal time to visit Tibet is during the spring and fall months, since the temperature during this time is less extreme and a lot milder. It is not advisable to go there during winter because of the strong winds and very low temperatures. During summer, the temperature can be volatile since it can range from freezing in the morning to extremely hot and humid at noontime.

  4. Stick to your itinerary. You will usually have no trouble with regard to creating your own itinerary since travel agencies arrange travels to Tibet. It is important not to stray from your official itinerary since doing so can cause problems. Some of the places that are usually included in Tibet itineraries include the Potala Place, which is the home of the Dalai Lamas. You may also visit the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama.
