how to treat heart disease

The treatments of heart disease vary from care to surgeries depending on the extent of the ailment. There are also medications that are formulated to address the problems relating to the condition and not directly to the major problem. The heart is a complex organ. It’s one of the core internal parts of the body. When it is damaged, it’s basically caused by the malfunctioning of the other components connected to it. How to treat heart disease will also be important on that note. Some methods are directed for the heart itself, but others will be controlling other related disorders. Take a look at these treatments:

  1. Treatments to lower blood pressure include cholesterol-lowering medicines. This is to stabilize the arterial condition. In addition, the patient will be advised to eat foods low in saturated and trans fats. A fruit-and-vegetable diet will have to be prioritized together with exercise. The safe level of cholesterol must be maintained. That’s why in most cases niacin, bile acid resins, statins, fibric acid boosters, and cholesterol absorption inhibitors are prescribed for best results.

  2. In a more serious state, coronary angioplasty is performed to make the artery opening larger. This will allow better blood flow. Angioplasty is done mostly to blocked or closed blood vessels. Small balloon vessel expansion, clot-dissolving injections, stents, or the insertion of a metal device are also reliable techniques of coronary angioplasty to retain a sufficient opening for proper blood circulation.  These are often used to treat symptoms of coronary artery disease.

  3. Another major heart disease procedure is bypass surgery. The patient will be operated on to remove the veins or arteries from a healthy part of the body and transplant them into the heart replacing the defective ones. When coronary arteries become totally useless, a bypass surgery is the most appropriate treatment. It’s like giving a new pathway for the blood to flow to the heart. Bypass graft surgery is the removal or redirection of blood vessels from certain areas and substituting it into the problematic vessels. The replacement vessel is called a graft.

  4. Acute coronary syndromes are treated using around five pharmacological groups. These are: Anti-platelet agents, antithrombotic agents, ACE inhibitors, statins and beta-blockers. These drugs are known to be highly-interactive. They can create more damage when combined with another drug with contrasting elements. Doctors will be very cautious to prescribe these because of their said natures. Thorough evaluation of all on-going treatments, other medications used, and supplements must be considered before resorting to these drugs.

  5. First-aid devices and skills must be in place. CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, has saved many lives. It will benefit a family living with a person who has chronic heart disease to have someone who knows how to do CPR and is trained in operating AEDs, or automated external defibrillators. AEDs will interpret heart rhythm and then apply a well-calculated shock automatically to prevent the patient from expiring. Calling 9-1-1 will also help.

How to treat heart disease is not easy. It will be very difficult for the caregiver. Deliberately following the doctor’s advice will make it easier for both parties to deal with the problems associated with it. Have the discipline to avoid restricted foods and taking the prescribed medications punctually are a necessity. Having a strong faith together with a loving support group are treasures for both the patient and caregiver during the ordeal. Patients should concentrate in making themselves feel good so that the people around them will be happy too.
