There can be different reasons as to why you may want to uninstall programs on your computer. You may be cleaning up your disk space and want to have more space for more important programs. Or, perhaps you have an upgraded version of that program. The steps on how to uninstall programs on Windows are very easy. A program, also known as software, is a compilation of ordered operations that can run on your computer. It can be a game, an editing program, writing program and the like. These are what make a computer more useful, as you can perform many tasks with various programs. When you install programs, they are saved directly to your computer’s memory. Simply deleting them may not be enough, as they are embedded in your computer’s memory already. The process of uninstalling programs differs between operating systems. In this article, I will be discussing how to uninstall programs on Windows. For your convenience, I have listed the steps on how to uninstall programs on various versions of Windows that are still in use. Here are the steps: Windows Vista/Windows 7 and 8

  1. On the lower left part of your screen, click on the Start button (Windows icon).

  2. On the second column, locate and click Control Panel option.

  3. Once on the Control Panel Menu, locate the Programs icon. Just below there, click on the Uninstall A Program option. In some cases, your Control Panel may be set to Classic View. Just locate the Programs and Feature and click that instead.

  4. After that, you will be able to see the list of the programs installed on your computer. Locate and click the program that you want to uninstall.

  5. Just above the list of the programs, you will see an uninstall button. Click that to continue.

  6. In some cases, Windows will prompt you with a message asking your permission to continue. If you are sure you want to continue, click the continue button.

  7. Then another prompt will appear, asking if you are sure that you want to uninstall the program. Just click YES and the process of uninstalling the program will begin.

  8. Sometimes, you will need to restart your computer to uninstall the program. Just follow the instructions and everything is set.

Windows XP
  1. On the lower left part of your screen, click on the Start button (Windows icon). This will then show you the start menu.

  2. Locate and click the Control Panel option.

  3. This will lead you to the Control Panel menu. From there, locate the option that says Add or Remove Programs. Double click that to continue.

  4. Now, you will be seeing all the programs that are currently installed to your computer. Locate the program that you want to remove or uninstall.

  5. On the opposite side of the name of the program, you will see two options. Click on the Remove option.

  6. In some cases, Windows will prompt you with a message asking your permission to continue. If you are sure and you want to continue, click the continue button.

  7. Another prompt will appear, asking if you are sure that you want to uninstall the program. Just click YES and the process of uninstalling the program will start.

  8. Restart the computer if necessary.

Just follow these simple steps on how to uninstall programs on Windows to successfully free up disk space, upgrade programs or to get rid of a certain program.
