How to Use Wax Strips

Wax strips are widely used by men and women to get rid of unwanted hair. Many have found them comfortable and easy to use in the comfort of their own homes. They are efficient hair removal aids. Hence, even commercial salons are offering them as alternatives to the traditional waxing procedure (which involves the heating of wax and its direct application to the skin). Learn comfortable and easy to use in the comfort of their own homes today:

  1. Wash and dry the area to be waxed. Wax strips work best when applied to clean and dry skin. Determine the size of the area to be waxed as most wax strips come in just one or two sizes. Have a pair of scissors handy to cut the strips into smaller pieces for the eyebrows, the area above the lips, and smaller areas. Cutting them into exact sizes and shapes will give you the desired results.

  2. Do not heat up the wax strip. Each strip is practically a wax-impregnated piece of fabric and you can warm it by rubbing it between your hands. This makes it soft and pliable.

The strips are ideal for people on the go because they don’t require much time or effort to use. The process is instant: It doesn’t require the heating and mixing of wax like the traditional waxing procedure would.

  3. Peel the covering off the back of the strip and apply the strip to the portion of the skin that needs to be waxed. Let it stay on the skin for about five to ten seconds, smoothing it in the direction of hair growth.

  4. Hold the edge of the strip firmly and pull it off quickly against the direction of hair growth. The removed hair will stick to the wax strip after being pulled out of the skin, roots and all. You will feel a bit of pain, but it will be tolerable. Pulling the strip off slowly is more painful, so make it as quick as you can. Note also that the more hair you pull, the more painful it can be.

  5. Warm the used wax strip again with your palms and reuse it on an area with less hair. Repeat the process described above. If you need to use it some other time, make sure to fold it and secure it in a clean plastic bag.

  6. Apply a little moisturizer to your newly waxed skin when you are done with the process. Do not expose it to sunlight for a while. Never use strong soap either. Apply deodorant to your underarm only the day after waxing it. Newly waxed skin is sensitive and can easily become irritated and sore.

Traditional waxing has widely replaced the plucking and shaving of the underarm, legs, arms, and almost any other part of the body where unwanted hair grows. Wax strips are an even better option. So learning how to use wax strips before your next trip to the drug store is worthwhile. The strips are economical to use, costing not more than $10 each. You can try different brands to find the one that suits you best. Veet, Parissa, and Salonsense Cosmetica are a few of the available ones. Regrowth tends to occur after around two weeks, so feel free to use the strips again.
