Learning how to use weight machines at the gym properly is necessary to avoid injury while exercising.  Fitness centers and gyms are equipped with various weight machines. Each machine is designed to develop a certain part of the body. Generally, most of the machines you find are not hard to use. Moreover, be sure to familiarize yourself with some basic gym etiquette, such as not being loud and cleaning a machine after each use. Here are few tips on how to use weight machines at the gym:

  1. Before even exercising, make sure to wear proper attire. Choose loose fitting clothes without buckles, zippers, fasteners, or pins so you can comfortably move your body. Choose athletic footwear with a sturdy grip and comfy soles. Also, put on a weight lifting belt as added support for your lower back and gloves for a better grip.

  2. Choose a weight machine appropriate to your needs. Select the weight machine suitable for the part of your body that you want to work on.

    In the earlier stages, concentrate on at least two muscle groups.

  3. Familiarize yourself with the set of motions for a given weight machine. Look at the illustration on the machine and study the details carefully. To be sure, ask a gym instructor for help. Don’t hesitate to ask questions.

  4. Adjust the machine. Ensure you are comfortable on the machine.

  5. Choose the proper weight. Identify which weight plate you will use and put the metal pin in. Make the pin is properly fixed in the weights. Then proceed with lifting.

  6. Slowly increase the weight as you progress. Make sure that you don’t overdo it. After every set, rest for 2 minutes or so. Ideally, you should aim for 2 to 4 sets of about 10 lifts.

After completing your sets, make sure you wipe down the machine thoroughly to clean it and put it back to the original setting. This is part of gym etiquette. Once you learn how to use weight machines at the gym, you can exercise your muscles properly and become fitter and healthier.
