How to Wash Your Face to Prevent Acne

Acne breakouts can happen between adolescence and middle age, but are more popularly associated with the former. Some people laugh when they experience acne later in life, because they often see it as an indication of youthfulness. However, even they would appreciate information about preventing it. If you are prone to acne, you will be glad to know that you can learn how to wash your face to prevent acne. Here are some tips:

  1. Wash your face at least twice a day - once in the morning and again before bedtime. Keep in mind that too much washing will cause dryness and irritation to your skin. So, it is important to limit it. Choose a facial cleanser that is formulated for acne-prone skin. Note that a mild facial cleanser like Cetaphil can work well on any type of skin.

  2. Fill a large bowl with warm water. Wet your face with the water to open up your pores. Gently rub a small amount of facial cleanser into your face with circular motions. Massage your face gently for several minutes. Include your forehead and chin in this routine to thoroughly remove dirt and excess oil from your whole face.

  3. Rinse your soapy face with warm water to wash away the dirt and the pimple-causing bacteria. Pat your face with cold water or gently rub an ice cube into your face to close the pores. This will protect them from getting clogged with dirt. Wipe your face gently with a clean and soft towel to dry.

  4. Apply a facial astringent containing salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to your skin to eliminate existing pimples. This will dry-up your acne easily. You can also use a toning lotion that removes dead cells and lightens the dark spots on your skin. You can buy these over the counter.

  5. Add moisturizer after toning your face. Natural moisture diminishes after washing, so it must be replenished. It can also protect the pores from clogging. All types of skin need to be moisturized, but people with oily skin should only apply moisturizer before bedtime.

  6. Put on your sunscreen before exposing yourself to sunlight. Sunscreen is vital for everybody now that the ozone layer is getting thinner. Too much exposure to UV rays is harmful to the skin. Individuals who have acne should also use sunscreen to prevent further irritation and redness. Dark spots and acne scars are triggered by intensive sun exposure without protection.

  7. Use hypoallergenic makeup or dermatologically tested cosmetics. Putting cosmetics on your face may trigger the formation of acne if their chemical content is not right for you. At night, make sure to remove your makeup and to follow this with your daily face-washing routine before sleeping. ItÂ’s better not to wear makeup if you have acne, but you can use some if you make a point of following a proper skin-care routine.

  8. Avoid scratching your face with your fingers. Your hands are the number-one carrier of germs and bacteria, and these can easily transfer to your face or any part of your body. Acne-prone skin is sensitive to dirt, harsh chemicals and even scratching. Make sure to keep your hands as germ-free as possible.

  9. Keep your hair clean to prevent acne. Good grooming is a factor that can affect your sensitive skin. Shampoo your hair every day and make sure to keep it groomed. Use headbands, ties and clips to keep your hair from swaying or moving around your face.

You can finally live acne-free once you learn how to wash your face to prevent acne.
