Tips on How to Supercharge Your Sex Drive After Menopause

Menopause can bring up mixed emotions; some think of it as liberating, while others think of it as a scary transition with too many changes to cope with. Among the many physical and emotional concerns of women during this stage is the change in their sex drive. Due to the low levels of sex hormones, almost half of women at the menopausal stage experience issues related to sexual function, such as vaginal dryness, lack of libido, increased discomfort during intercourse, and vaginal atrophy. Unlike men who have the "little blue pill" to turn to, post-menopausal women do not have a medication fix that can get them instantly into the mood. If you can relate to this scenario, there’s no need to worry. A good number of solutions exist to help you learn tips on how to supercharge your sex drive after menopause.

1. Try using lubricants. One of the main reasons why women in this stage have a decreased desire for sex is that it often causes pain, and pain is not something you would look forward to. Due to a decrease in estrogen, the vagina does not secrete fluids the way it did in the past.

This causes vaginal dryness, thereby leading to painful intercourse. A good solution to this problem is to use a lubricant. The right lubricant that works for you and your partner may make sexual activity enjoyable for you again and allow you and your partner to rekindle the sizzle in your relationship.

2. Ask your doctor about hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Though HRT isn't for everyone, it may help alleviate vaginal dryness and other changes in sexual function. Also, though the medical field hasn't come to an agreement about the benefits of HRT. Some physicians believe that a little bit of testosterone combined with the right amount of estrogen can be a solution for the symptoms and issues associated with menopause. Such treatments may possibly improve sexual desire and restore some aspects of sexual function.

3. Try local estrogen application. If you're not one for hormone replacement therapy, a good alternative is applying topical estrogen products directly into the vagina. These products come in the form of creams, gels, vaginal suppositories, and even "rings" that release estrogen into the vagina at certain periods of time. These doses help simulate the vaginal tissues to produce the needed secretions during intercourse, which leads to more comfortable sex and possibly even an increase in libido. Another pro is they do not pose any cancer risks unlike those taken orally.

4. Vitamin E is good for you. Vitamin E has been found to help soothe and lubricate vaginal tissues. When applied directly onto the area, this fat-soluble vitamin helps hydrate dry tissues. It may also help increase sensation in the area, leading to a more pleasurable experience. Simply stick a pin into a capsule, squeeze out the contents, and apply onto your vaginal area every other day or about twice or thrice a week. It can also work as a lubricant due to its silky consistency.

5. Maintain a loving connection with your partner. If your relationship with your partner runs strong and deep, chances are that they are willing to understand you and be patient. Maintain a strong connection and do not allow resentment to creep in. Make it both your priorities to support each other and find out what you can both do about improving sexual desire and keeping the fire burning.

These tips on how to supercharge your sex drive after menopause can greatly improve your connection with your partner and can make both of you feel that you aren't missing out on any of the good things in life.
